The Eurasian Jay (Glarrulus glandarius)

The Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius) is a widespread Paleartic species which includes 33-35 more or less differentiated subspecies. A study by Akimova et al. (2007) unraveled the relationships between these subspecies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It belongs to the family Corvidae. The figure below, taken from Ericson et al. (2005) shows the exact position of Garrulus in the phylogenetic tree based on mitochondrial DNA.
